I saw 91 movies in 2020. Here is my full ranking.
I don't want to bore you all so please take a look at my thoughts on some pretty cool films! I watched ~91 movies this year and beginning January 1 I decided to keep a list and write a review if I felt inspired or didn't write one if I was too high or lazy. The list is a combination of movies that came out in 2020, movies I had never seen before, and some movies that needed a rewatch. I am by no means a professional critic but only an incredibly passionate fan that likes to think I have a good eye! Comment if you agree, comment if you disagree, just comment so I have something new to think about some of the films. As a quick note, this post is essentially a rip-off of a post done by u/BunyipPouch that can be referenced here: https://www.reddit.com/movies/comments/eh71gy/i_saw_192_movies_in_theaters_in_2019_here_is_my/ . I really like the way this person outlined their list so I'm pulling a Quentin Tarantino and stealing their idea! Without further ado: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Arrival - 10/10 Confirmed my favorite movie of all time. Watching for what might be the 7th time made me realize the strength of a feeling that movies can give you. Having a favorite movie doesn’t mean it is the best movie, but the feeling you get when watching your favorite movie has you wanting to chase that feeling in every movie you see. Certain aspects are unexplainable but all I know is there is something about this movie that gets to me every time I watch it. Maybe it’s the decision she makes to live out the life she sees in front of her even though it leads to extreme heartbreak. Maybe it’s the daring concept of alien life in what is almost such a real depiction. Maybe it’s the idea that time really is a shiftable construct that we may have the power of utilizing. Whatever it is, it leads to extreme beauty and an indescribable feeling. Parasite - 10 Spotlight - 9.4 A near perfect 10/10. This isn’t a typical movie that should be judged by the acting or camera work, but by the ability to progress and tell a sick and twisted story. The layers are peeled back with each scene, revealing a new horrific aspect about the size of the case, the attempt to cover it up, and the sickness of the individuals involved. The scope of the story can cause an emotional reaction at multiple points and makes you see the pain that the victims have gone through without leaning too much on showing this actual pain. 2001: A Space Odyssey - 9.4 1917 - 9.3 Gone With the Wind - 9.3 Waves - 9.2 There are so many interesting aspects of this film that make it unique and almost fantastic. Firstly, it is almost equally an experience of sound as it is of color and visual (hence ending on Alabama shakes’ Sound and Color). The soundtrack uses modern rap and R&B hits in an effective way and not in the way of trying to impress the audience with good music. Secondly, the emotional scenes are so genuine and the directing style is not aggressive so you can feel the emotion with the characters. The moment of Emily seeing her bf hug her dying father, causing her to walk away bursting into tears and trying to find the words to say to her parents over text, is beyond heartbreaking and done so well. The demise of her brother is depressing and felt exaggerated but goes to show that life can take crazy turns. Loved it. Soul - 9.2 Such a beautiful film that I did not expect to move me the way it did. The film tackles incredibly deep and metaphysical questions with such ease that it makes the directing and everything about the movie feel even more genius. At times it struggles between being a movie for kids and trying to answer life's toughest questions, but overall tells a beautiful story of just living to live. Sound of Metal - 9.2 The Lighthouse - 9.2 Oh my god. I don’t really know what to say but this movie made me feel things and that feeling is hard to find. I don’t want to rate it. The Social Network - 9.2 Pain and Glory - 9.1 Dear Zachary - 9 Never cried more in a movie as this is what the heaviest loss looks like. The sheer passion and commitment that Kate and David have toward honoring their son and being good people is astounding and incomprehensible at times. I’ve never hated someone so much in my life before and felt so strongly about the need to live and do good. It is easy to be broken after something like this happens to you but the awe-inspiring love and devotion that these people have for this family is one of a kind. Please watch this if you need to cry. The Tree of Life - 9 Ferris Beuller’s Day Off - 9 Midsommar - 9 I don’t even really know what I watched but I know it was genius. Gladiator - 8.8 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - 8.8 Steve Jobs - 8.7 Shot in 3 unique stories, this movie is able to give you the spirit of Steve Jobs without needing to explain historical information like many biopics would. Faasbender is spectacular and creates the essence of Steve Jobs perfectly as someone who is utterly devoted to better the human race no matter the cost it brings to those around him. The editing is impressive with so many quick cuts and blending the shots to feel like a singular story. You walk away impressed with the legacy jobs left behind, the heartbreak of him not being around to further the human race, and the harsh reality that he was not a flawless human. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 8.7 This film is really in a category of its own, not because it’s the greatest movie ever made, but because of how unique each of the elements are. Fincher takes his signature style of directing and combines it with a Tree of Life storytelling narrative and a Steven Spielberg/James Cameron style of creating a classic feel good drama. Overall, it’s core is designed to make you accept life for what it is, even if this is particularly a positive spin on life and its consequences. The Grand Budapest Hotel - 8.7 Frances Ha - 8.5 It is such a realistic depiction of struggling New Yorkers without the emotional breakdown. You never really see her lose her shit even when she seems to be going crazy. I hated in the moment the separation of Greta and her best friend because of the somewhat abrupt change in Sophie’s character, but they have a nice full circle reunion. The performances are fantastic and the film has a certain air to it as if Baumbach wants you to realize that what you are watching is not real life while trying to make it seem as real as possible. Definitely a unique film that has minor flaws but overall shows a meaningful journey of a New Yorker trying to find their way. Almost Famous - 8.5 Bridge of Spies - 8.5 Steven Spielberg has centered his masterful directing skills into telling real life stories without the need for too much artistic involvement. Movies like Vox Lux and The Lighthouse capture you with artistic involvement, but Spielberg has learned how to capture you with immaculate storytelling of historical events. If you are ever interested in learning something new, Spielberg will not disappoint. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - 8.5 The Other Guys - 8.5 Drive - 8.5 Munich - 8.4 This is an action film that takes away the historical cliches of action films and adds a layer of raw truthfulness. Spielberg uses his gift to inform people of a momentous story that affected Israel and the Jewish people without adding any propraganda-like elements to make you pity them or be completely one sided. The story is horrifically true, and Spielberg does not hold back on any of the details. The acting is solid and provides an emotional look into the consequences that come with facing terrorists both for a nation and for an individual. Ad Astra - 8.4 Okja - 8.4 So goddamn high please don't hurt the animals. Wedding Crashers - 8.4 You sandbagging son of a bitch Blade Runner - 8.3 Crash - 8.3 Incredibly powerful and socially relevant, this movie was necessary during these times to artfully show the systematic racism engrained in society. The acting performances are stellar, particularly Thandie Newton, and Haggis’ directing is perfect to convey the raw emotion in each scene. Spirited Away - 8.3 Blade Runner 2049 - 8.3 Kill Bill Vol. 1 - 8.3 Enemy - 8.2 Such an interesting and gripping movie that didn’t seem to make a lot of sense but I imagine a second watching would provide more insight. Gyllenhal is truly something else and should be treasured. Villanueva is so good at creating his own world and creating such a uniquely shot film with moods and coloring. Good Time - 8.2 Snowpiercer - 8.2 The Town - 8.2 5 to 7 - 8.1 Luckily I was in the mood for a rom com but this had its own unique air to it as of course there were cheesy parts, but they were not delivered in a cheesy way. Once over the fact that someone essentially like me could find themselves in this sort of relationship, I could actually begin to root for them and understand how something like this could work. There are some amazing lines that I should go back and write down for when I want to pursue someone, and the holistic narrative of the film is done very well. There is nothing special from a directing standpoint, but his simple approach at least allows the story to progress without any complications from a camera perspective. Oceans 11 - 8.1 The heist movie of all heist movies. You show me a young Brad Pitt and George Clooney and I’m not sure there’s a way to fuck that up. There are obviously cliche moments and the impossibility of actually pulling this off is sometimes too ridiculous (they throw glow sticks into a hidden elevator shaft to a vault), but overall wonderful to watch. Jojo Rabbit - 8.1 Philadelphia - 8 Led by the incredible acting of Hanks followed by the emotionally gripping plotline, Philadelphia is able to tell the story of not just one gay man’s plight with aids and the repercussions socially and physically, but of an entire minority’s struggle with acceptance. The directing is very understated in a way that pays off considering the story development should be at the forefront of the film. Incredibly heart-wrenching and is clearly an important film to giving a voice to gay Americans. Uncut Gems - 8 The Safdie brothers have a particular way of filming/directing that creates an environment of entertaining stress that is able to grip your attention for the whole film. I love the connection between the opal gem and Howard as the movie begins and ends with that connection through his body. Sandler was absolutely snubbed and perfectly portrays what it’s like to be an addict and constantly on the run. Molly's Game - 8 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - 8 Jaws - 8 Love Actually - 8 Cruel Intentions - 7.9 A glorified soft-core porn featuring a young Reese Witherspoon? Yea, you could say I liked it. Knives Out - 7.8 An all star cast and provides enough mystery to keep the plot moving seamlessly. It’s a very interesting film for a murder mystery as they reveal what would typically be the biggest piece of info quite early in the movie, but there are more layers that need to be peeled back. The reveal is very clever and was not too outlandish, but I think they could’ve done more to make it even more shocking. Aside from that it’s a fun film and is worth the watch. Rise of the Planet of the Apes - 7.8 In what was a surprisingly enjoyable movie, planet of the apes takes an Avatar approach and gets you to root against the humans. The montage of the ape growing up is done concisely but effectively and allows you to connect with him while remaining entertained. There are obviously some cheesy aspects and not a lot of character development outside of the ape, but I left feeling like I could watch a sequel. Tenet - 7.8 I love Nolan but I struggled at times to keep up even with my eyes glued to the screen. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - 7.8 Booksmart - 7.7 In what can be assumed to be an ode to the Superbad films of the late 2000s, Booksmart successfully keeps you entertained primarily driven by strong performances from Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein. They have a clear chemistry that is never doubted and play the perfect duo of extroverted smart high school kids that are finally ready to rebel. There are scenes that are a bit predictable and slightly lazy in writing in order to move the story along that I’m choosing to nitpick over (dever creating a “diversion”, using the pizza guy as the free get out of jail card), but once the little things are accepted the greater story can be appreciated. The movie has the particular feel of Superbad in which you know you’re going to see some outlandish things on the journey that will lead to laughs, but will ultimately lead in a coming of age lesson in a heartwarming way. Out of Africa - 7.6 "You’ve ruined it for me, being alone." 10 Things I Hate About You - 7.5 Zodiac - 7.5 Frozen - 7.5 The Interview - 7.5 Casino Royale - 7.5 Skyfall - 7.5 The Talented Mr. Ripley - 7.4 Tron Legacy - 7.4 Palm Springs - 7.3 Borat Subsequent Moviefilm - 7.2 The hype was too much to overcome but Cohen really did a nice job of bringing back the classic and presenting Borat in a 2020 world. It’s genius filmmaking to have someone like Borat show America what America is really like as you can look in the eyes of a racist foreigner. Don’t Worry He Won’t Get Far On Foot - 7 Quantum of Solace - 7 The Perks of Being a Wallflower - 6.9 The cheesiness makes it shocking that it was released as late as 2012 but overall its an interesting story clearly coming from a novel with strong themes. Loopers - 6.9 I liked having seen Loopers, but it’s not a must see movie. The ending was creative and definitely saved my overall opinion of the movie. Have a Good Trip - 6.9 Never forget the power of psychedelics and how these icons have had crazy trips. Carrie Fisher is your new favorite. Coachella Documentary - 6.9 The Gentleman - 6.9 Jurassic Park - 6.9 About Time - 6.9 Spider-Man Far From Home - 6.8 Probably the worst of the new Spider-Man movies but still provides great visuals with interesting hero concepts. There is definitely a lull in the middle and there are some scenes that make you appreciate Marvel, but otherwise just another solid movie from marvel. Oceans 13 - 6.7 While entertaining and still shows you Pitt and Clooney, there are definitely more annoying aspects and less intriguing storylines. The Social Dilemma - 6.4 Obviously a very important topic that should have more documentaries like this one, but really overplayed some of the dangers in a dramatic/theatrical sense. Ford Vs. Ferrari - 6.2 Not gonna lie, while the story itself is enthralling and a unique part of history, the “studio” feel of this movie took away from much of my enjoyment. I feel bad that Bale and Damon had to be in such a studio made film because they both put on great performances. Bale can do anything he wants and crush it. The way they vilify certain aspects is comical and the cliches are tough to get by, but there are some great action shots of the races and powerful scenes where bale is doing the heavy lifting. Long Shot - 6.1 Definitely some funny and witty jokes, but overall it’s mediocre. I didn’t hate it and actually enjoyed many of the aspects, but no need to say much more. Air Force One - 6 Patriotic in the most 90s way possible, with Harrison Ford as president, evil Russian bad guys with mustaches, and an essentially all white cast, Air Force One is a hidden American propaganda film. The movie was funnier than anticipated because of the classic Harrison Ford trope of constant survival and the dramatic set ups to make the wins look even more unbelievable. Either way, hard not to love Ford as the president of the USA and almost made me proud to be an American by the end. Meet Joe Black - 6 With a 100% white cast and overall 90s feel to the movie, it’s hard to rate this movie “fairly” as if it had just come out in 1998. But I like the idea similarly to Tree of Life in terms of looking over your life and making sure you have lived it completely without any regrets. However, acting is mediocre and I didn’t realize how much I hate the typical 90’s businessman in movies. Andre the Giant - 5.8 Fury - 5.5 This was definitely a disappointing letdown. Expectations were definitely high going in but the horrible special effects and mediocre acting made this tough to be invested by the end. Armageddon - 5 Back to School - 5 Cougar Hunting - 4.9

30 [M4F] USA- Nerdy 90s gamer and artist looking for a connection maybe a GoldenEye local death match
Hey there! I'm from a small town so it makes it difficult to find anyone to connect with. At the moment I am seeking friends. If anything else happens down the road I can't necessarily complain. Also, you don't have to be from New York. It does make it easier if you are from the same time zone or somewhere close to that. So some things about me. I play guitar, into gaming, drawing, reading comics, collecting vinyl, thrifting, and playing Pokemon Go. I have a few degrees in art. One is a Bachelor's degree and the other an Associate's. Right now I haven't found any work related to my field but I hope to some day. I really enjoy inking and have a vast collection of pens. If you are ever interested in sharing pens and inking with me I would be happy to. I've been playing guitar since I was a Junior in high school. I play guitar on and off but I'm not at the skill level that someone else would be for playing that long. I have a bass, electric, and acoustic electric guitar. I am into gaming as stated. Right now I play Switch and PS4. Switch is ideal for me because of the portability, the indie games, arcade ports, NES games, Nintendo exclusive games, and also the influx of retro style games available. At the moment I am focused on FarCry 5 for the PS4. I also have other older consoles. I'm definitely into the 90s. Sometimes I pine for a simpler time. When we didn't have a constant connection to the internet distracting us. When people seemed to care about more traditional outlets of media like traditional animation and zines. I love the music from the 90s (yes, even some of the Pop music.) I love the games and the style of the games from the 90s. If you are a budding 90s enthusiast what are you waiting for? Some of the music I like are: the Smiths, Radiohead, the Talking Heads, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Frank Zappa, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Daft Punk, Silverchair, Primus, the Pixies, the Breeders, the Black Keys, the White Stripes, Weezer, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Joy Division, the Clash, etc. Some of my favorite shows are: Doctor Who, Ash Vs. Evil Dead, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Rick and Morty, Broadchurch, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Black Adder, Red Dwarf, Spaced, Ren and Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead, and Game of Thrones. A selection of my favorite movies includes: Wayne's World, Army of Darkness, Evil Dead 2, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Dead Alive, House, Mystery Science Theater 3000 the Movie, UHF, GoldenEye, Skyfall, Casino Royale, Beavis and Butthead Do America, Office Space, Idiocracy, and Gremlins 2. If you want to talk here we can. I don't like Reddit IM especially with the mobile app. I have Discord, Kik, WhatsApp, and Skype too if you want to talk on any of those. Oh and here is a picture of me: https://m.imgur.com/a/2m8Tr3J If any of this appeals to you I look forward to hearing from you! I'm definitely up for talking to some people I have common interests with. Thank you for reading this far and I hope you have a great day!

Movie Rankings By Franchise (Of the Films I've Seen)
Theses lists have nothing to do with the quality of the films. The only thing that affects ranking is how much I enjoyed the films. Well...I'll keep it short and sweet :D Last week we got these results: Group A: Goldfinger 46:16 Dr.No You Only Live Twice 45:17 The Man With The Golden Gun Group B: From Russia With Love 47:15 Tomorrow Never Dies For Your Eyes Only 47:15 Moonraker Group C: GoldenEye 32:30 On Her Majesty's Secret Service Octopussy 43:19 Diamonds Are Forever Group D: Casino Royale 51:11 Skyfall SPECTRE 46:16 Die Another Day Group E: Licence To Kill 32:30 The Living Daylights Live And Let Die 48:14 A View To A Kill Group F: The Spy Who Loved Me 47:15 Thunderball The World Is Not Enough 40:22 Quantum of Solace Well...The only "2nd seed" movie that won't qualify for the knockout round is Tomorrow Never Dies as For Your Eyes Only go the third spot. Otherwise no surprises. The battle of Daltons for the first spot in the Group E was as tight as you would expect. One of the better reviewed movies in the entire series had a close matchup in the battle for the top spot of Group C as GoldenEye and On Her Majesty's Secret Service both advance in the knockout round but GoldenEye going to face the movie that finished 2nd in the Group D in the knockout round. martymcqueen made a great graph for this tournament! Check this in a better and simpler manner here: https://i.imgur.com/PKWx8Qj.jpg Here are the standings of the groups: GROUP A 1 GOLDFINGER - 9 pts (+121) 2 DR. NO - 6 pts (+5) 3 YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE - 3 pts (-21) 4 THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - 0 pts (-105)
GROUP B
1
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE - 6 pts (+123)
2
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY - 6 pts (-5)
3
TOMORROW NEVER DIES - 3 pts (-13)
4
MOONRAKER - 0 pts (-105)
GROUP C
1
GOLDENEYE - 9 pts (+107)
2
ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE- 6 pts (+101)
3
OCTOPUSSY - 3 pts (-67)
4
DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER - 0 pts (-127)
GROUP D
1
CASINO ROYALE - 9 pts (+169)
2
SKYFALL - 6 pts (+81)
3
SPECTRE - 3 pts (-89)
4
DIE ANOTHER DAY - 0 pts (-161)
GROUP E
1
LICENCE TO KILL - 9 pts (+41)
2
THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS - 6 pts (+39)
3
LIVE AND LET DIE - 3 pts (+25)
4
A VIEW TO A KILL - 0 pts (-97)
GROUP F 1 THE SPY WHO LOVED ME - 9 pts (+129) 2 THUNDERBALL - 6 pts (-11) 3 THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH - 3 pts (-29) 4 QUANTUM OF SOLACE - 0 pts (-89) Sorry for having first and last group like this but reddit was screwing up and wasn't showing them anyways... :( Sorry :/ Ok...some stats: FYEO finished 2nd despite having negative point defferential. Same goes for Thunderball. Casino Royale (+169) has the biggest point differential of the group stage and Die Another of the same group has the worst (-161) Licence to Kill has the worst point differential (+41) of the first placed movies. Quantum of Solace has the best PD of the 4th placed movies (-89) You can double check for some mistakes cause I am doing this entire thing manually, English is not my main language and I am sleep deprived so... :D Now....I have a question for you.. For the final standings...should I take the knockout games only for the teams that get eliminated or not? ...ok that sentence sounds weird :D What I'm trying to ask... Let's say...hypothetnical situation...in the knockout Round we have Casino Royale lose by 10 points and For Your Eyes Only lose by 3 points. Should FYEO in this hypothetical situation be higher than CR cause it lost by less than CR or not cause they did worse in the group stages? Usually it's done considering the group stages but I figured I let you decide :))) Now.. Here are the knockout matches: Match 1: GOLDFINGER VS FOR YOUR EYES ONLY Match 2: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE VS DR. NO Match 3: GOLDENEYE VS SKYFALL Match 4: CASINO ROYALE VS ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE Match 5: LICENCE TO KILL VS THUNDERBALL Match 6: THE SPY WHO LOVED ME VS THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS After this, here are the matches in the 2nd knockout round: Match 1 vs Match 6 Match 2 vs Match 3 Match 5 vs Match 4 And the most important thing of them all.. I hope you enjoy it so far (and once again sorry for bad formatting above) See you next week and until then....stay safe and Bond on!
Hey there! I'm from a small town so it makes it difficult to find anyone to connect with. At the moment I am seeking friends. Also, you don't have to be from New York. It does make it easier if you are from the same time zone or somewhere close to that. So some things about me. I play guitar, into gaming, drawing, reading comics, collecting vinyl, thrifting, and playing Pokemon Go. I have a few degrees in art. Oh and here is a picture of me: https://imgur.com/a/ZTB9v3F If any of this appeals to you I look forward to hearing from you! I'm definitely up for talking to some people I have common interests with. Thank you for reading this far and I hope you have a great day!
Here we are - we finally ranked them all!!! Please use this thread to leave any last thoughts you may have and to compare it with the last series of Bond Movie of the Week (from three years ago), whose results you can find here. Criticism and feedback for these BMOTW threads and for the mod team in general is also more than welcome to be left here! :) Thanks to everyone who participated, I'm sure I speak for more than one person when I say that I'm really grateful for the awesome community we have here on /JamesBond! I was so happy to see that so many people were leaving comments week after week and engaging in insightful discussion and constructive discourse. We will likely do another BMOTW series sometime after the release of Bond 25, but until then you guys are more than welcome to make a thread about ranking the films anytime you want (as was done here). Send us a message in modmail if there is something you want us to sticky (for the purposes of reaching as wide an audience as possible on here). Thanks again for being a great group of redditors. Much love to you all. :)

30 [M4F] USA - Are you up for some GoldenEye? Maybe some Perfect Dark?
Which one do you prefer? Either I have both of them. Ideally I would like to find gaming friends or just friends in general to connect with in real life. Online is fine too but it isn't the same. At the moment I am looking for friends. If something else sparks as a result of that I can't complain. I would like to take things day by day and see how things go. You don't have to be from New York. It does make it easier if you are from the same time zone or somewhere close to that but I'm looking anywhere in the US. Another week, another Bond movie to revisit and rank! This week, we are discussing the most recent James Bond film Spectre, directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, and Monica Bellucci. Don't forget you can also find the Spectre megathreads in our sidebar, if you want to revisit this subreddit's thoughts after the movie first came out. Let's also quickly take a look at the current Bond Movie of the Week rankings. 43 of you left ratings for Skyfall two weeks ago - thanks to everyone who left their feedback! More important, the tie between You Only Live Twice and The World is Not Enough was resolved last week, and TWINE prevailed. At this time of writing, from 108 poll participants TWINE was preferred by 55% of participants and had an average rating of 6.66/10, while YOLT was preferred by 42% of participants and had an average rating of 6.34/10. Still a very close race, however! You can view the poll results here and also download the data in .csv files. I would like to remind everyone that the more ratings we have, the more “accurate” the average rating will be; even if someone has already said all the points you felt like bringing up, leaving a comment with just your rating of the film out of 10 is helpful. :)

'Carte Blanche': My Wishful Ideas for 007's Return to Gaming
EDIT: Hey guys, sorry if this isn't exactly done up to par with standard Reddit ettiquite, I'd really like to present my nerdy ideas to you in a way that meets with everyone's standards so please bear with me while I work on everything. It's been suggested I put the major points towards the top of the post and keep the fluff out of it so I'll try to gear this more in line with that. Thanks for your patience guys, I'm trying lol. What They Should Do- So I've recently been adding all my PS4 games to my new external hard drive and I loved having my Tomb Raider games sitting right next to Uncharted and right next to Metal Gear Solid. Then it struck me, each of these franchises is fronted by their own truly iconic protagonists, Lara Croft, Nathan Drake and er...Big Boss or Solid Snake or whatever his name is (I have to admit I'm not that big of a Metal Gear Solid fan-not because I don't like the series or anything I just haven't ever really gotten the chance to sit down and play then through) then I got to thinking-one of the most iconic action franchise heroes of all time, my own personal favorite action hero, for lack of a better way of describing him, is of course James Bond. And then I realized, Bond has been tragically absent from the video gaming sphere for a while now, six years to be exact. And this would be less somber if 007 hadn't once been truly an iconic figure in the video gaming community-I fondly remember playing Nightfire and Everything or Nothing on my PS2, Bloodstone on my Xbox 360 and of course...of course, of course, GoldenEye on my good old N64 back in the day. And while I wouldn't be arrogant enough to call myself the greatest 007 fan ever, having only been born in 1991, I have seen every single film from Doctor No to Spectre and I eagerly anticipate Daniel Craig's final outing as 007, I've read at least one of Ian Fleming's original novels, Casino Royale and yet, not a single James Bond title sits on my PS4 and this saddens me. As I'm sure we all know, 007 Legends was released on consoles in 2012-and what a disappointment it was. As such, the negative reception to 007 Legends caused Activision to drop the license for all games related to James Bond media, which helped exaggerate the recent drought in 007 games. As things stand, no one currently knows whether or not we will ever see another James Bond video game or if we do, how long it will take. Realistically speaking, it would be foolish to believe that anyone would let such a lucrative title as the 007 Franchise lie dormant forever-I only hope that when Bond makes his return to gaming it's in a title worthy to carry the name. Therefore I hereby propose my own ideas for James Bond's next adventure in video gaming-please bear in mind that this is nothing more than wishful thinking so the chances of this concept actually playing out are quite small so don't get too excited and hopefully you don't come to this post mistaking it as some kind of a leak for future plans. But nevertheless here we go. My first proposal would be that a different company other than Activision, namely Naughty Dog or SquareEnix take the title. I wouldn't be opposed to EA reacquiring the rights since not only did they make some of the better 007 titles under Brosnan's tenure, they have also evolved as a company to build some truly amazing franchises like Dragon Age or Battlefield-if EA could marry both the free roaming exploration and role playing elements of the Dragon Age franchise with the tactical first person shooting elements of Battlefield, I think they'd have a capable entry on their hands. I feel Rockstar would also be capable of making a truly formidable 007 series but I fear it just wouldn't be in the company's style to adapt a popular character like Bond as they seem to prefer sticking to their own franchises and the only adapted content by the company seems to have been of more cult classics like The Warriors. I would suggest UbiSoft, with a 007 title similar to Assassin's Creed or Watchdogs but I think having a second espionage action franchise would conflict with their Tom Clancy titles, specifically Splinter Cell, which I strongly believe will be returning imminently. I'm not going to suggest Telltale, because while they would indisputably be capable of creating a story that focuses on Bond's development as a character, I wouldn't be confident they would give us the control over 007 I think we deserve. No I stand by Naughty Dog and SquareEnix, clearly with Uncharted and the rebooted Tomb Raider games in mind (unfortunately, if Naughty Dog acquired the rights, I feel the title would be a PlayStation exclusive, therefore alienating Xbox customers so perhaps SquareEnix is the best bet) In terms of 007 returning to the video gaming market we have to realize that we are at a very critical step in the game-whatever eventually gets released as the next James Bond title is going to have an immense amount of pressure on its shoulders as it's going to have to make a lasting impression in order to ensure future titles. How incredibly disappointing it would be if we are informed that a company has acquired the rights to 007 and then we begin seeing test footage of pretty much everything we've already seen from past 007 titles. Whatever comes next should be completely different from anything that has been done before. Again, I would suggest looking to inspiration from franchises like Uncharted or Tomb Raider. Another thing to consider is-what will the game be about. I personally feel that the next Bond game should be completely stand alone. If we try to rely on the starpower of Daniel Craig or MGM Studios we're going to be setting ourselves up for failure. The next Bond game should feature a James Bond that is completely original and not modeled after any of the EON Productions actors. I think it should be a part of a story that features a clear beginning, middle and end, the first game featuring Bond as a recruit to the agency and the final game featuring an older, weary Bond wracked with guilt. I've always suggested an actor like Richard Madden, formerly of Game of Thrones to be a future Bond candidate so for argument's sake let's envision his face as our model for 007. Now as we're alienating the films and any previous games, what will our 007 adventure be about? I suggest the first game be an adaptation of Jeffrey Deaver's 'Carte Blanche', featuring a post 9/11 James Bond closely modeled after Ian Fleming's original character. Using Deaver's updated biography, our Bond would be a member of the Overseas Development Group as opposed to MI6, a former Royal Navy Reserve Intelligence Officer who served in Operation: Herrick in Afghanistan. Bond was born in 1979 and raised in Scotland-when his parents died in a climbing accident, he was adopted by his Aunt Charmaine and raised in England. It's strongly implied that the government took an interest in young James' education and he was therefore sent to some of the best schools in the country as he was already a candidate for field work. After his military service he worked in the Ministry of Defense until being recruited by the ODG. As for the plot of 'Carte Blanche', it would revolve around the ODG receiving word of an imminent threat against Great Britain and in the ensuing investigation, Bond would travel from Serbia to Dubai and across the world to stop Incident Twenty. It's perhaps not the most exciting of recent James Bond literary adventures admittedly but it is perhaps the one that delves the deepest into Bond's personal and private life and I think that these are themes that should truly drive the narrative of this game. Of course the plot can be reworked where necessary and hopefully whoever obtains the game as a developer can acquire Deaver as a consultant. 'Carte Blanche' is also somewhat of a grittier novel so I think that keeping it somewhat grounded in reality would be a benefit to gamers. As for gameplay I would advise a third person perspective (again similar to Uncharted or Tomb Raider) but with the option for first person gameplay if desired. I would seperate the game into regions so it would be freeroaming-sort of. For instance, 'Carte Blanche' opens up in the hills along the Danube River outside Novi Sad in Serbia-while I don't think we necessarily need to explore all of Novi Sad the car chase that opens the novel would be best along a long stretch of road that gives the impression of being endless. However, when Bond travels to Dubai he does so incognito and he has to blend in as he's being monitored by members of MI6. Cape Town also appears in the novel and so being able to free roam Cape Town and Dubai would be excellent. Bond can arrive by plane and check into a hotel undercover which can be used as sort of a safehouse and change his outfits and then he can travel to his objectives by car or taxi. Stealth would be suggested for most missions as the more people Bond kills, the more local police attention would be attracted. Hand to hand combat should be not unlike the Batman Arkham games while firearms combat should be similar to Uncharted or Ghost Recon Wildlands or in first person, Battlefield. Bond should also have the ability to craft makeshift weapons in the field like a bomb out of a car battery or a shirk out of a table leg similar to Tomb Raider but the player should have the Walther PPK available on assignments. (When Bond goes on tactical missions the P99 would also be available) The game should also have a multiplayer component similar to Watchdogs where someone else playing the game is assigned as a hitman sent to take Bond out. There should also be a hub area similar to Call of Duty: World War II but better where the player can free roam between missions. I would suggest five areas: the Greater London Area, including Bond's flat in Chelsea, which the player can use as a safehouse, the ODG offices in the metropolitan area of the city where the player can drive in and receive mission briefings and equipment from Q Branch and also flirt with Moneypenny, Skyfall Lodge, Bond's ancestral home in Scotland (I know this might be too much of a cinematic reference but since the books never really gave a name to Bond's Scottish home why not just keep Skyfall) Fort Monckton, where Bond can receive firearms training and retake physical examinations as mentioned in the novels and Credenhill, the home of the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, where Bond can receive more advanced tactical training. I would suggest a DLC featuring Bond on his first mission, not necessarily a Casino Royale remake but it should include his relationship with Vesper.and his first two kills. I would also include a DLC set in the Sixties featuring M as a young MI6 agent. I also think it'd be cool to have each of the 007 actors as downloadable skins for DLC. I haven't figured out the story yet but the second would be titled Vargr and set in Scandinavia and involve SPECTRE. I would probably involve Bond vs Alec Trevelyan in the final game. What do you guys think? TL:DR: We need a new James Bond game and it needs to be different than any of the previous ones.
(OFFER) Large list of 4k/UHD, UV movies and series. (REQUEST) New Releases, Almost anything I don't have (I have about 2k), TV Seasons. Willing to do multiple titles to make fair deals.
UV / UltraVioletVUDU Some movies will only redeem on myuv.com, Flixster, Universal, Fox, Sony, VUDU and so on. Most port quickly to the other services and it is rarely an issue. If I know the quality of the movie it is listed next to it. I verify the codes before sending to make sure they are still valid. VUDU redemption codes are UV codes and they will port to other services. If I had a VUDU code that is now redeeming on Movies Anywhere I deleted the VUDU redemption note. I think some of the remaining VUDU redeem codes can actually be redeemed at myuv or lionsgate websites also, MA gives you a link for most of them. Note: many FOX films have the option of being redeemed on Vudu (will port to other UV after), iTunes or GooglePlay. Some Fox films only allow you to redeem at 1 or 2 of the 3 commons and it isn't always consistent. I've tried to note next to each Fox film what your options are. I'm not trying to sort out what will or won't work with MA right now. As you know many studios will port with MA but it is still new.

SONY MOVIE BUFF PASSES - This link is to movies I verified as available recently. If you want me to check for a certain movie I can. https://www.reddit.com/AaronStuff/comments/6romk7/sony_movie_buffs_reward_pass_list_of_available/ UV / UltraVioletVUDU Some movies will only redeem on myuv.com, Flixster, Universal, Fox, Sony, VUDU and so on.

My millionth or so re-ranking of the films, as of October 2016
24. Diamonds Are Forever - A disaster. A visibly disinterested and out-of-shape Connery goes against a camp Blofeld less threatening than a Looney Tunes villain in a dumbass spy comedy. If the films had stayed this tonal path there would have been no need for any Bond spoofs like Austin Powers. 23. Quantum of Solace - Apologies to those whose interesting defenses of this film I’ve read over the years, but I still don’t like it much. Other Bonds may be darker or more serious-minded, but this is the only one that I find to be full-on grim, bleak and miserable. (Kinda funny that my problem with my bottom two are exact 180 degree opposites.) (#24-23 are the only Bond films I actually dislike, all 22 films above this point I at least like if not love.) 22. Thunderball - Controversially low, but this one’s a bit on the dull side to me. Its high points include a still-cool Connery, Fiona Volpe, Barry’s score and a few standout scenes. But most other characters (Largo, Domino, Vargas, etc.) I find unmemorable and the underwater fights - while I’m sure they stunned in 1965 - have always felt slow and killed the pacing. 21. Die Another Day - Of course; even at #21 I’m one of the Bond fans who ranks this highest! When it’s stupid, it’s really stupid (invisible car, virtual reality, Robocop suit, and of course CGI windsurfing). But when it’s a little less stupid I find some of it enjoyable, including the pretitle sequence, sword fight, parts of Cuba and the climax, with Graves/Frost/Zao making a trio of enjoyably ridiculous villains. 20. Spectre - A frustrating film of highs and lows for me. You have a handsomely-mounted and atmospheric production with some solid action and likable characters that evokes some classic Bond films in fond ways and has one of the best pretitle sequences of the series. But on the other hand, I don’t think anything in the entire half-century of the series infuriates me the way the Blofeld twist in this film does. 19. The Man With the Golden Gun - This film has many of the same tonal problems as previous Guy Hamilton/Tom Mankiewicz joint Diamonds Are Forever, refusing to take any of this seriously in a way that damages the mood and stakes. But unlike that film it has a classic villain given life by a great actor and a leading man who actually shows up, and also better locales/score/stunts, so it’s clearly superior. 18. The World Is Not Enough - Yes, Christmas Jones sucks and I find Apted’s direction of many scenes flat, including the submarine climax. But I respect its attempt at telling a more emotionally grounded story of protection turning into love into betrayal into enmity, and Elektra King is a terrific villainess. The return of Zukovsky, opening boat chase and farewell to Q are also memorable. 17. A View to a Kill - If this was which films I’m fondest of, AVtaK would be high up. That may come down to series villainous highlights Walken and Jones as Max Zorin and May Day. More objectively, the film has many issues, from a lumpy narrative to screechy Stacey Sutton and an ancient Roger Moore. But also objectively, the title song is epic, and Barry busts out one of his ultimate scores here, lending real musical life to everything from big scary action (“He’s Dangerous”) to warm romance (“Wine With Stacey”). 16. Dr. No - I think of Dr. No as the “pilot episode” of Bond, with some elements not quite fully formed, such as the villain and Bond girl showing up very late, very raw action scenes and an odd tropical score. But that said, Sean Connery explodes into the role of James Bond fully-formed and cool as hell from his first second of screen time, and so much else about the mood and feel of Bond are established immediately, from gambling to exotic locales to to the supporting cast. A pilot episode, but a very solid one. 15. For Your Eyes Only - Give or take Bibi Dahl and some parrot comedy, this is the Moore era’s take on a relatively serious spy film, and it’s a good one, chockablock with winter sports action, a great cliff climbing scene, Bond kicking a car off a cliff, a likable ally in Columbo, and an interesting Bond girl with an arc in Melina Havelock. The only real weakness is a fairly forgettable lineup of villains. 14. Licence to Kill - I’ve jokingly called it “Bond Does Miami Vice” due to its Miami/Latin American locations, drug-dealing villains and generally very 80s look and feel and hairstyles, but this harder-edged revenge thriller really gets the blood pumping and plays into Timothy Dalton’s strengths as Bond. Sanchez is one of the series’ larger than life villains, charismatic, wicked and even darkly likable in his own way. 13. Moonraker - One I seem to rank higher than everyone else. It's a deeply stupid film, what with the laser guns and double taking pigeon. But it has brilliant work from Barry ("Flight Into Space") and Ken Adam, a great villainous two hander with Drax and Jaws, the series' most epic villainous plan, a super cool Bond ("You missed, Mr. Bond." "Did I?"), a likable leading lady, hilarious ending, and neat 70s special effects. 12. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - Here’s one I seem to rank lower than most - many seem to rank OHMSS #1 these days. But I still find Lazenby and Savalas wooden as Bond and Blofeld, which is a big obstacle for me. But in pretty much all aesthetic ways it’s a masterpiece, from Barry’s majestic score to the sweeping cinematography and use of color and the locales and skiing scenes and just that grand 60s mood, and of course that devastating ending. And Diana Rigg as Tracy is just phenomenal. 11. Tomorrow Never Dies - This one is pure entertainment. I admit that a bit of “generic 90s action movie” feel leaks in. But I can forgive that when so much of the action is imaginative stunt-driven badassery like the backseat remote control driving, tandem motorcycle chase and final stealth boat raid. I love Elliot Carver’s cheesy villainy and Wai Lin as Bond girl/ally, Brosnan is smooth and charming and David Arnold’s energetic, Bond theme-heavy score rocks. 10. Skyfall - Skyfall has going for it Daniel Craig’s performance, one of the greatest villains in Silva, and of course just being utterly gorgeous top to bottom, for me supplanting previous champs OHMSS and YOLT as the best looking film of the series. I’ll go to my grave believing Deakins was snubbed not winning the Oscar for this. The film’s plot doesn’t entirely pass the logic test - there were about a million simpler ways to kill M! - but as a work of mood and emotion and atmosphere and visual elegance it’s sublime. 9. The Living Daylights - Skyfall vs. Daylights was the hardest call of this list for me, and I went back and forth a hundred times, but I just give Daylights the edge. It just has that intoxicating Cold War atmosphere to it, perfectly channeled through Dalton’s performance. The film is tough, tense, atmospheric, and brings back the espionage and tradecraft in a way unseen since FRWL. Forgettable main villains but everything else is fantastic (including that kick-ass title song). 8. Octopussy - For me Octopussy is the ultimate “generic Bond movie,” which I say with love. One of the best lineups of villains (Kamal Khan, Orlov, Gobina, knife-throwing twins), a favorite Bond girl in Octopussy, a nuclear bomb plot that balances being big-scale and global while not dipping into Spy/Moonraker sci-fi, solid action, Q in the field, a great gambling scene (“Double sixes. Fancy that.”), and a lush Barry score. Love it. Even the clown stuff and Moore’s aging don’t bother me… too much. (Everything from this point up is also in my own personal top 100 favorite movies list.) 7. You Only Live Twice - I just love this one, the Japanese flavor of it and Pleasance’s Blofeld and Tiger Tanaka and how big-scale it is and how great it all looks and sounds - I think that series icons John Barry and Ken Adam both do their all-time best work in this film, with that volcano base pretty much being the coolest set in film history. My only real issue is that they kill off the likable Aki and bring in the forgettable Kissy. 6. Live and Let Die - I have enormous fun with this. The series feels refreshed after Diamonds with a fit, cool, suave and handsome Roger Moore now in the lead, and I enjoy the supporting cast of Kananga, Solitaire, Tee Hee, Baron Samedi, Quarrel Jr and Hedison’s Felix Leiter (ok, not Rosie Carver). The atmosphere is pure cool 70s, the score funky and awesome, the boat chase and crocodile running stunt kick-ass. I’m not saying I’d want to see a Bond film try to bring in these supernatural/voodoo/blaxploitation elements again, but as a weird one-off experiment I love it. 5. From Russia With Love - A superb Cold War spy thriller by any standards with its very Fleming vibe and Hitchcock and golden era noir flavors running through it. The Blofeld/Rosa Klebb/Red Grant/Kronsteen villainous lineup is excellent, with Grant especially being an iconic Bond villain to this day. His train fight with Bond still kicks ass. The complex plot still fascinates, and the atmosphere of tradecraft and espionage and counterintelligence still intoxicates. Such a leap forward from Dr. No. 4. Casino Royale - Not just a superb spy thriller and a kick-ass action film but even a really solid character drama on top of that, with Craig giving the best actual acting performance as Bond in any film. Vesper Lynd and Le Chiffre are terrific supporting characters. The way the film adapts the then half-century old novel in a way that modernizes and actions it up while remaining very faithful to the plot and spirit of it is brilliant. Dialogue, visuals, sets, score, action - I can complain about nothing. It’s great. 3. The Spy Who Loved Me - There’s more cheeky guilty pleasure to this one than the last couple, but I find this to be the ultimate “epic Bond,” larger than life in every way with Bond of course saving the entire world from nuclear devastation. From the ski jump intro to the Lotus submarine to Atlantis and that climactic tanker battle and everything about Jaws, this is loaded with iconic moments and imagery. It remains perhaps the purely biggest and grandest and most sweepingly epic films of the series. 2. Goldfinger - After the relatively buttoned-down FRWL, here’s where the swingin’ 60s arrive and the Bond series gets more playful and colorful and comic-book-pulpy, in look and sound and feel and especially in its villains. What a memorable, fun and iconic pair Auric Goldfinger and Oddjob make. That laser scene, the golden girl, the final raid on Fort Knox, Bond and Oddjob’s battle, Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore, even the golf game is really fun and memorable - this one is just iconic. 1. GoldenEye - I pretty much wrote a novel about my love for GoldenEye during Bond film of the week, but just to reiterate my points there, the film is just the perfect mix of great tone, atmosphere, characters, story, action, look, and just pure Bondian cool to me. Give or take a slightly odd score, I adore everything about it, dam jump to cradle collapse. One of my favorite movies ever. (For completionists, the unofficial films all rank at the bottom: Casino Royale ’54 at #25, Never Say Never Again at #26 and Casino Royale ’67 at #27.)
I did some analysis on the movie lists submitted by 50 redditors to find the top 10 movies of this decade according to /r/movies. I also did some other interesting analyses
So I compiled some fifty redditors' top 10 lists from this thread, did some normalization, and analyzed this data in many different ways. First, I obviously wanted to see what the best movies of this decade are according to reddit. So this is the ranking I got (movies had to be in at least two top 10 lists to show up here):

No surprise that DK came up there, though it's surprising how different this list is from the top 20 movies in IMDB Top 250 released in this decade: 4. The Dark Knight (2008) 13. Inception (2010) 17. Interstellar (2014) 45. The Departed (2006) 52. The Prestige (2006) 38. The Intouchables (2011) 41. Whiplash (2014) 54. The Lives of Others (2006) 62. WALL·E (2008) 71. Toy Story 3 (2010) 57. The Dark Knight Rises (2012) 56. Django Unchained (2012) 109. Batman Begins (2005) 102. Inglourious Basterds (2009) 110. Like Stars on Earth (2007) 105. A Separation (2011) 100. Birdman (2014) 150. Rang De Basanti (2006) 148. V for Vendetta (2005) 123. Pan's Labyrinth (2006) Next analysis: which users had the most number of movies from the top 20 list in their own list (aka they're the most average /movies submitter):
And then finally, I performed a hierarchical clustering on these top ten lists. (basically, the calculation arranges the user list based on how similar their top 10 lists are, and then finds out how users group together based on these top 10 lists). The results are interesting as seen here: http://i.imgur.com/5bymhTD.png I colored some movies of interest to make it easier to compare. The top part of the cluster seems to overrepresent the "common favorites" while the other half seems to basically choose movies not really in the top lists for the most part. This chart also represents how similar these redditors are to each other based on how close they are in the list. What do you guys think? I had a lot of fun doing these analyses and if there's any other interesting metric you would like to see, I'd be glad to look into them!
THIS IS A REMAKE OF THE PREVIOUS THREAD AS I'VE MADE A MISTAKE IN THE PREVIOUS ONE After one week of voting the first round of the Title Sequence Tournament we can finally reveal the results from the first round of the TS tournament. In the first round Casino Royalle got pass but the other 22 Bond movies battled for advancement in the second round of this tournament. You can find the matchups and all title sequences of the Bond movies HERE The results of the first round are as follows: SKYFALL vs DIE ANOTHER DAY 22-3 GOLDFINGER vs DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER 21-4 GOLDENEYE vs OCTOPUSSY 25-0 LICENCE TO KILL vs MOONRAKER 16-9 THE LIVING DAYLIGHTHTS vs TOMORROW NEVER DIES 14-11 FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE vs A VIEW TO A KILL 12-13 THE SPY WHO LOVED ME vs THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH 15-10 DR. NO vs THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN 13-12 FOR YOUR EYES ONLY vs QUANTUM OF SOLACE 12-13 THUNDERBALL vs LIVE AND LET DIE 12-13 ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE vs YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE 13-12 The matches of Round 1 were really really close. Goldeneye was most dominant in the first round but willl Brosnan's 007 flick advance to the 3rd Round ? ROUND 2 MATCHUPS: Casino Royale - On Her Majesty's Secret Service Skyfall - Live and Let Die Goldfinger - Quantum of Solace Goldeneye - Dr.No Licence To Kill - The Spy Who Loved Me The Living Daylights - A View To A Kill AND REMEMBER You are voiting for the Title Sequences and not the theme songs. The theme songs may have a part in your decission but they shouldn't be the only thing that you should look for in the title sequences. CLICK HERE to vote
So after the "Best Bond movie" threads and "Best theme song" tournament (both won by Casino Royale) I've decided that it is time for another tournament. Best 007 title sequence tournament. The title sequences are one of the key 007 elements. The girls, the bullets, tha shadows etc. is what makes Bond great. But what movie hat the best title sequence of them all ? Well we are going to find that one out in the next few weeks. Because Never Say Never Again doesn't realyl have a "Bond style" oppening and because it is not official movie we are going to make a minor change. Casino Royale which both won "Best movie" and "Best theme song" will get a free pass in the first round. The rest of the first round will be based on the ratings you gave to the 007 movies 1 year ago in the "Bond Movie of The Week" threads. So the movie with 2nd best rating will square against the movie with worst rating, the movie with 3rd best rating will square against the second to last etc. Which basically means that the First Round of the "Best Title Sequence Torunament" (BTST) will be as follows: SKYFALL vs DIE ANOTHER DAY GOLDFINGER vs DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER GOLDENEYE vs OCTOPUSSY LICENCE TO KILL vs MOONRAKER THE LIVING DAYLIGHTHTS vs TOMORROW NEVER DIES FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE vs A VIEW TO A KILL THE SPY WHO LOVED ME vs THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH DR. NO vs THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN FOR YOUR EYES ONLY vs QUANTUM OF SOLACE THUNDERBALL vs LIVE AND LET DIE ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE vs YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE The voting will begin next week and the 2nd round matcups will be Winner of Matchup 1 vs Winner of Matchup 11 etc. DO NOT VOTE NOW, the voting begins next week on a link. This is jut an annoucement of the threads. HERE you can find all openings minus SkyFall which you can find HERE I hope you are going to like this idea of a 007 tournament. The voting begins next Monday and until then stay safe and Bond on !
I talked a bit about VBA and the future of Excel extensibilty in my response here. At least for now, I think you can assume that VBA is alive and well, but not the current focus of investment.
That said, we do have an entire team in Office that thinks only about extensibility and ways to improve extensibility across the suite, so it's a VERY important investment area for us.
Apps for Office aren't there yet. But the idea behind them is that we're basing them on a tech (javascript and HTML) that have legs cross-platform (and in the modern day world). Moving forward, you should expect to see those techs move from just the "Apps for Office" as you know them today (floating containers in the sheet, or taskpanes in the app) to encompass a broader surface area. We're already talking about (and have prototypes for a lot of) how we expose UDFs, how we do automation and macro recording, and how we unify across all of the apps.
I or someone on my team (I write design specifications for the next versions of the product) have been trying to get that added since the 2007 release. It just turns out we have sooo many good ideas that we have to prioritize.
I worked on the OneNote team as well, so I know those guys could throw down. We'd take them in the end because we've been doing this longer. Wisdom and trickery wins over youth and enthusiasm.
That is an Excellent question (badumdum). We do use it a bit with jest, but awesome, super-awesome, and awesomerest are definitely the words of the year here.
Dan.
I only really hear this if someone is doing a Mr. Burns impression. - Matty.
Frustration probably isn't quite the right way to say it, but I would love to find ways to make it easier for less-savvy users to dive into the more advanced functionality. The chart suggestions and analysis lens features of 2013 are both examples of where we're trying to make it easier for users to use more advanced features with just a few clicks. - Matty.
Lack of awareness of our features is a constant battle. I frequently sit with customers and watched them spend an hour or more doing a task that could be completed in just a click or two. It drives me crazy, but also motivates me to keep improving the product and making things simpler. (It's especially common to see this with users who don't use PivotTables but should spend time aggregating data on their own.) Another challenge is getting people to upgrade to the latest version of Excel. So many things get improved in each version and people don't take advantage of them as fast as I would like. I am excited to see the increase in advertising of our Power BI offerings, showing some of the higher-end usages of Excel. -Ben
I'd have to say walking uphill both ways, through the snow to get to school every day as a kid.
From an Excel perspective though, I'd say balancing the needs of expert users with those of users who need the product for more everyday needs. Threading that needle right is a delicate process.
Ctrl+z-ing a macro action: we do explicitly clear the undo stack after code, its something we've looked into but with all the things a macro can do it makes it a bit complicated.
If I understand your question correctly, The Mac vs Win differences arose out of the old Mac limits. I don't use Macs much myself, but certainly back in the day, Mac's had one button, but we wanted context menu support so the command key became a way to do that. Lots of cross-platform choices to get windows like experience on the mac, etc. Some mac folks liked it, others didn't. -Matty @Aginyan - the link Matty meant to post is this one - it's an Excel Survey that we have where people can post issues, and we evaluate them for fixing: Link to onedrive.live.com You can always also use Link to answers.microsoft.co (go to the Excel section) and there are people answering questions and filing bugs from there all the time!
For #2 - that's something that we wrestle with on our side because as the Excel team we completely understand (probably more than just about any other team in Office) how important VBA and extensibility in general are for solutions.
Easter eggs are highly discouraged these day. Some customers complained about them for a variety of reasons. I miss them too (Dev Hunter was my favorite). - Matty.
So, it shouldn't be doing that on a single click. There is a feature, which the team still argues about, that causes a double-click to send you to the top or bottom of the grid. The extra feedback is helpful, as much of the work we prioritize and do is based on what our customers are telling us about.
I feel your pain. I find that it never defaults to what I want. Hurdles like this are what hold back people from using PivotTables and they frustrate our heavy users as well. While we don’t have a way to change the default now, we know this is painful and are thinking about ways we can simplify/improve this experience. -Ben.
From my perspective, I think one of the biggest challenge was making sure Excel for iPad feels like Excel. Getting the ribbon just right was a big part of that. It needed to be optimized for touch, it needed to give users the power they've come to expect and it needed to feel almost intuitively like the Ribbon that 1+ billion Office users are accustomed to using. If you want to hear more about Office for iPad design, please check out the Office for iPad AMA next Tuesday at noon east coast time.
Hey there! Most of the design challenges had to do with the expectations of touch interface users, the specifics of iOS design, and balancing existing users' expectations with the platform standards. There's a good interview on Mashable with one of our design leads talking about this here: Link to mashable.com Among other things, we looked at usage data for common commands, studied how the ribbon was laid out on various platforms and tweaked designs based upon watching how people used our mock-ups. It was a lot of fun -- and we hope you like the result.
We had a test file from a restaurant in Japan that laid out their menu in Excel. They created a square grid which helped them design it and fit with different text orientations that you'd see in Japanese, and then entered items and prices in separate cells. They could change prices based on calculations.
We've also seen people do tradeshow floor layouts in Excel, because it has all the benefits of being a big canvas like Visio, but they could also add calculated values as needed.
Actually my only other sort-of-professional job was working as an engineering intern at Gillette. I worked on the production line for Sensor Excel. - Matty.
We do know a few of them - they are great folks, and we've worked with them in the past around some of the data connectivity functionality that's available there. But we want to try and keep things to Excel for today - thanks for understanding!
I'm happy to hear you like CUBEVALUE Functions. We get pretty excited about them too. We've been talking to our content writers about improving our BI articles and tutorials since it has been an area that hasn't received much love recently. Hopefully you'll see something come out soon. -Ben
You should know that no self respecting fantasy football owner would share that kind of knowledge. We'll give you one clue...Russell Wilson as quarterback in 2014. Game over from there.
The calc engine for the iPad version is mostly the same as what we shipped in Office for Mac 2011, but with added support for functions that we added to Windows Excel 2013. (Link to office.microsoft.com There shouldn't be many calc features that we are missing, what are you hoping to see? Scrolling performance was a big focus for us, what kind of problems are you seeing? Some "checkerboarding" is expected when the content is more complex or you're on a slower machine, similar to what Safari or Numbers does in those cases. Also, the Office for iPad team will be doing an AMA next week, so if you have more specific iPad questions, check back then too!
Our cafeteria pizza does leave something to be desired, but we ordered the Pizza and it was great - Link to www.pagliacci.com. Generally we do eat pretty well here, though we all hate our respective cafeteria's (and we all think "the building next door has a better one." :-)
A keyboard shortcut that I use all the time in Windows Excel (following a Ctrl+C) is the Alt+E+S command. It brings you to a paste special dialog that allows you to quickly paste the copied data as values, formulas, formats, etc.
I find it most useful when I want to quickly copy formatting across a spreadsheet -- and use the Alt+E+S+T keystroke.
Aaron.
I posted this elsewhere but alt-; is one of my favorites. It selects only the visible cells in your current selection. Handy for filtering and then working with just the filtered data.
Knowing that the work I do has such a big impact on a large set of users. If I do something well that really helps people, that a win for a lot of folks. I also know that if I screw up, we'll hear about. Even if it's in an obscure part of the product, somebody, somewhere is using that every day to help them solve a problem. -Matty.
Getting to work on software that is used by hundreds of millions of people. I can walk up to almost anyone and they are impacted by features I help build and improve. -Ben
I can probably describe what each of them do if you tell me the function, but couldn't list them all on demand. My favorites are probably RAND because I use it so much creating random data for testing, and VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP for general data wrangling.
I don't know the exact answer, but generally I think the history has to do with idiosyncratic behavior between our implementation and Lotus's. - Matty.
Thanks for the great question! there are a lot of things we think about when considering new functionality. we meet with customers to see how they are using our current products. we study statistics that help us better understand how often people use existing functionality. we often build and test prototypes to see how well a design works at meeting a specific need. and we also think about how much time certain features would to implement. it's a prioritization exercise from there. hope that gives you some insight into the process.
Sort of. A bunch of the core codebase is shared, but the platform-specific pieces have historically been done by different teams. Over time, more and more has been shared, and it wouldn't surprise me if, in a few years, we had a single team developing Excel across all platforms/endpoints.
Have you checked out Power BI yet? It has a lot of new functionality and more features are added every month. Power Q&A (natural language querying of your data) is one of the features that surprises people the most when they see it in action with their own data. -Ben.
The RegEx question is frequently brought up, and it is certainly is something we often talk about. Also, I believe you can use RegEx in VBA if you create an instance of the DOM, but that's a workaround and if we properly do it we'd want our users to have a much better experience. Something that might help both you and us regarding the frustration is for us to get feedback. On most newer versions of excel there is a "Send-A-Smile" button near the close button, and we check that feedback often. The better aware of user frustration we are, the more likely we are to fix it.
A fair number of people on the team use Visual Assist and Notepad++. - Eric.
A few of us who have been around a while use Visual SlickEdit. We've actually developed quite a few macros specific to Excel with its fantastic extensibility. -Matty.
I like Numbers, Apple's done a nice job of making an app that feels totally appropriate for both OS X and iOS, but for me it fills a different need than Excel. In some cases I like the flexibility that Numbers' layout options provide, and it's very easy to make nice-looking documents. But I find it less useful than Excel when working with very large or complex datasets.
I love Excel, but I've never seen it win over the ladies. I did see a personal ad in the Stranger once that said something like, "Excel expert preferred. Macros make me rock." - Matty.
The best way to learn VBA (even for programmers) is to use macro recording. You can turn that on by going to File Options Customize Ribbon, and turn on the DEVELOPER ribbon. There, you'll find a "Record Macro" button. After you record a macro, look at the code that's generated for you!
It's always a hard decision to make. We have lists of hundreds of possible features we could go implement at any given time. The primary way we decide is talking to customers and deciding which features would have the biggest impact for our users. We also align many of our features with the general themes Office is trying to deliver for a release and the overall market trends. -Ben
Truthfully if you're a student the best way to get your foot in the door is to visit the Microsoft booth at your career fair (not sure if we go to your school though). That is how I was hired 14 years ago.
We've definitely shied away from linking recalc with formatting. It has some cool potential, but it also ties the view of the spreadsheet to parts of the underlying spreadsheet model that complicates the view-model separation that keeps our architecture manageable. Even the fact that the Hyperlink function affects formatting creates some weirdness. -Matty.
I don't really have a good answer here. I've seen so many unexpected uses, but never really anything I'd call crazy. It's always people trying to solve some problem that I might not have initially expected them to solve in Excel. It usually boils down to them using the tool (Excel) that the have in their toolbox and moving forward. It has definitely taught me to be very careful about making assumptions about what customers can and will do in Excel. - Matty.
We actually considered something like this when we expanded the grid in 2007, but it meant having to retrofit a lot of code around expected limits and behavior of various features, so we had to back off of those plans. I still think it would be pretty darn cool. That said, it would be hard to do a good job tuning performance for all the variations, particularly at the extremes. -Matty.
Vesper Lynd was a fictional HM Treasury liaison officier who appeared in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, portrayed by French actress Eva Green. Green subsequently provided her likeness for the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace, the 2015 James Bond film Spectre, and Activision's 2008 video game Quantum of Solace. Skyfall has the incredible photography, the pre-title sequence, and an awesome villian. CR was far more grounded - had a better plot, better relationships. I guess I'm undecided, they're both so great. "Casino Royale" has the answers to all my complaints about the 45-year-old James Bond series, and some I hadn't even thought of. It's not that I didn't love some of the earlier films, like some, dislike others and so on, as that I was becoming less convinced that I ever had to see another one. Since taking on the James Bond mantle in 2006 with Casino Royale, Craig has injected a vital transfusion of fresh plasma into a franchise that began in 1962 with Sean Connery in Dr. No . The baccarat sequence in Casino Royale is more thrilling and exciting than any action sequence in any Bond film since. I am a huge, huge Bond fan, and a good case can be made that Casino Royale is right up there with the best Bond films (On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger) or maybe the best Bond film.. Spectre and Skyfall are just nowhere near as good. Why Casino Royale is better than Skyfall I loved Skyfall. I’ve seen a lot of these articles written lately, in argument that either Casino Royale or Skyfall is a better film, that rely on bashing whichever they think is inferior in comparisons with their favorite. I’m not going to do that. Skyfall was an incredible… Skyfall: 2 Casino Royale: 0. BOND WOMAN. Here's where I give Casino Royale complete credit. Honestly, Eve Moneypenny and Severine were serviceable, but far from the most memorable or profound female characters in the franchise. Vesper Lynd, on the other hand, was on a whole other level.
